What is ‘modern’ design? For those of you visiting our gardens this year, the delight is in seeing how our gardeners have used certain materials and the space available to achieve the finished effect.

If you want to see a starkly modern design that creates a calm and Zen-like space, go to the new courtyard garden by local designers, Wynniatt-Husey Clarke at 90 Edburton Avenue, Fiveways.

Modern design comes in two sizes in Kemp Town – small and medium –where two gardens featured in the Evening Standard last summer are now on show. At 6 Bristol Street a small garden is a clever synthesis of ideas garnered from design shows and at 22 Arundel Place,the modern design on a slightly larger scale uses hard landscapeto set off luxuriant planting around a modern garden building.
